To turn this former bedroom off the first-floor landing into a dressing room, Jocasta had a set of cupboards built for her by her semi-resident carpenter, and painted them orange and black to resemble Chinese lacquer. Around sixteen years ago, Sophie Cuvelier found herself jobless and in very low spirits. Her tonic was to make strings of hand dyed and cut confetti and pennants, which opened up a new world of many colours.
